Das SPEZIAL is a collaborative music project founded by Shahab Notghi, bringing together his work as a producer and creative director.
Built around a core creative team that includes Stew Jackson—whose long-standing work with Massive Attack has helped shape some of the most influential music of recent decades—alongside Drew Morgan and acclaimed mix engineer Ewan Pearson, Das SPEZIAL brings together a wider circle of musicians, vocalists and visual artists. The result is a fluid creative collective united by a shared commitment to creating exceptional records rather than following stylistic boundaries.
The project reflects Shahab's own musical journey. Over five years he was mentored by Steve Dub (The Chemical Brothers), an experience that helped shape his approach to production, collaboration and sonic experimentation. He also worked closely with drummer and percussionist Clive Deamer (Radiohead, Portishead) on an EP, further developing a passion for rhythm, texture and the craft of record-making that continues to influence Das SPEZIAL today.
Every Das SPEZIAL record begins with the song. Rooted in classic songwriting but shaped by contemporary production, the music moves naturally between intimate singer-songwriter moments, expansive cinematic arrangements and rhythm-led compositions, with each release finding its own identity rather than conforming to a single genre.
Rather than chasing trends, Das SPEZIAL is built on collaboration, craft and the freedom to follow ideas wherever they lead. Drawing on decades of collective creative experience, the project combines adventurous production with enduring songwriting to create records that are ambitious in scope, meticulous in execution and designed to leave a lasting impression.
